For my original data, I conducted a survey around school. The participants were asked eight questions regarding where they are from, what their majors are, and other questions regarding foreign language and mathematics.

Question 8: Is there a bad way to teach math or a foreign language? If so, what is it? (i.e. is a certain way of teaching one of the two subjects difficult or hard to learn from?)
1. Yes, Math- not being specific with the lesson Spanish- not practicing the language in class
2. Yes. Communication of the topic is extremely important. If a teacher cannot communicate the main points or importance of the lesson, the odds that the student will understand is slim to none.
3. Yes, teaching without allowing questions to be asked or answered. I think it would be beneficial if teachers would try to motivate us to learn. If we had an incentive, besides our grade, I think we would be more likely to want to participate. If you look like you don't want to teach us, we won't want to learn. Also if teachers would make examples that we could actually relate to, it would engage us more.
4. Yes, for foreign language they teach too much on the writing while they should practice more speaking the language.
5. Yes, I feel like only teaching a principle a single way is less effective than explaining the same material in different manners in to insure that the entire class is understanding.
6. Yes, for math: teaching it on a computer is the worst possible way of doing it. Math should always be taught with paper and pen. Online just makes learning 10x harder. For a foreign language, I feel like the only way to fullly emerse yourself is if you have no other option than to speak another language. The language professor should speak an alternate language at every possible moment.
7. Yes, for both subjects, the teacher just talking. It does not help us, so please don't do this when you become a teacher.
8. Don't lecture, show
Through holding this survey I have learned many things. Clearly, everyone learns differently. Being in the education program at St. Norbert, we are taught that not all children will be at the same place when they step into our classroom. We need to learn how to teach to their strengths and help them find out how to be successful. From the survey, I discovered that students do really want us, as teachers, to be interested in the topics we teach. They also are interested in us being able to relate topics to their lives and common interests of the class.
